Bach and his Italian Colleagues

Joachim Schafer (trumpet), Judit Izsak (piano), Matthias Eisenberg (organ), Judit Izsak (harpsichord), Judit Izsak (organ)

This is Joachim Schäferrsquo;s eighth CD with Christophorus: the recording focuses on Johann Sebastian Bach, a composer who particularly devoted himself to the exploitation and extension of the trumpetrsquo;s technical and musical possibilities. Unfortunately, Bach did not compose any concertos for trumpet(s), but Schäfer has compensated for this lack by producing two skilful arrangements of Bach cantatas with virtuoso trumpet parts, thereby creating two new ldquo;Bach concertosrdquo; for three trumpets. Bachrsquo;s ubiquitous ldquo;Airrdquo; is a further highlight, performed by Joachim Schäfer and accompanied by the organist Matthias Eisenberg. Schäfer rounds off his programme with concertos and sonatas by Corelli and Albinoni and other Italian contemporaries of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Arcangelo Corelli: Sonata in A-Dur
Johann Sebastian Bach: CONCERTO in D-Dur (BWV 29) (Arr. Joachim Schäfer)
Johann Sebastian Bach: CONCERTO in D-Dur (BWV 249) (Arr. Rolf Henry Kunz)
Johann Sebastian Bach: AIR aus Orchestersuite Nr. 3
Tomaso Albinoni: CONCERTO in d-moll op.9/2
Giuseppe Torelli: SONATA in D-Dur
Giuseppe Romanino: CONCERTO in D-Dur (Arr. Joachim Schäfer)
